Fortunately, at the heart of Doha lies the more than a 100-year-old Souq Waqif or ‘standing market‘. It’s an open marketplace which sells distinct local products such as spices, clothing, pets and etc. Watch out for its occasional art galleries, festivals and concerts!

The historical Persian Gulf surrounding the city has been a prime melting pot of civilizations for thousands of years. The Museum of Islamic Art, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the Qatar National Museum will take you through the evolution of Qatar’s politics and culture.

Lastly, the most astonishing feature of the topography of Doha is the Pearl. It is a land reclamation effort for residential and tourism purposes and is situated on the coastline of the Persian Gulf. The islands in it have unique themes such as its Qanat Quartier which emulates the canals of Venice. Foreigners can actually reside in the Pearl permanently.

Doha isn’t just rich because of its country’s oil reserves. It has these landmarks which epitomize the gilded culture and history of Qatar.

I had experienced the deserts and sand dunes of Saudi Arabia when I was in Riyadh.  Once I was able to tour the Red Sands of Riyadh and as well as the famous Edge of the World.  You can do these trips if not summer in Riyadh.  The dry surroundings of this country look very interesting to me and can take you to the historic times of this prominent Arab country.  If you are planning to visit in Saudi Arabia any time soon for work or side-trip Umrah reasons, don’t reschedule your journey because you can do and see many things when in Saudi Arabia.  You can make your residence in Riyadh an enjoyable one while earning some good cash at work.

The Riyadh National Zoo

I hope I had visited this, but it seems the animals here are so popular only on winter months.  I have heard that the animals are housed inside an air-conditioned facility on summer days.  It is one of the major zoos in Saudi Arabia.  The zoo is believed to have kangaroos, elephants, monkeys, and many others.

The National Museum of Riyadh

I think I had visited this two or three times when I was in Riyadh to accompany some friends.  It is located in the King Abdul Aziz Historical Center.  The Riyadh National Museum is a two-storey building that houses a wide array of relics of both the past and present, including manuscripts and exhibit boards.  The museum is known for its great presentations, and I think a lot of people visit this.  I just remember it is quite tiring to visit this museum.

Al-Maktaba Park

I have seen only in passing this square situated in the Olaya Street, Riyadh.  In a view, it covers a scenic spot looking at the Al Faisaliyah Tower.  The park has a grand history for its visitors.  It has a out of this world waterfall which is placed on the reverse side of the facility entry.  It has a artificial pool which attracts the tourists.  There are many resting spaces in the park which are sheltered by trees.  The centerpiece of the AL-Maktaba Park is a Clock Tower that is noticeable from an extreme distance.

Al-Musmak Castle

Situated in the Imam Turki Bin Abdullah, The Al-Musmak Castle is an ancient pride and joy of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  The castle is known for its exceptional history in the country and it offers a scenic observation.  This castle is made from clay and mud-brick which played an important part in the Kingdom’s history.

The Kingdom Centre

This is the mall I frequented when I was in Riyadh.  I am always amazed of this landmark.  It is one of the tallest skyscrapers in Riyadh.  It is the 3rd largest in the Saudi Arabia and 25th tallest building in the world.  It has a wonderful shopping center, containing 160 exciting stores and shops of world’s prominent brands like Mont Blanc, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Saks Fifth Avenue, Marks & Spencer, and many other.  The Kingdom Centre has many business offices, world-class dining restaurants and the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel along with a stunning banquet hall.  It has 41 elevators, 22 escalators and a wide space for carpark.  You will not ignore The Kingdom Centre in Saudi Arabia.

 

Taking a trip alone can be very fulfilling. You can sense a feeling of freedom and independence. Your emotions are a mixture of excitement and adventure, of what lies ahead, alone, and it's only you and nobody else. No worries, nobody to take care of, and only you to enjoy whatever you will be doing and have fun wherever you go. Some form of escape perhaps, to unwind, relax, do some soul-searching and just do anything under the sun. This can be a rewarding experience. It does not matter if you are a man or a woman.

Here are some reasons why you need to travel alone at least once in your life:

Total freedom and independence. Traveling alone is a memorable experience. Imagine yourself doing anything alone to please your wishes, and desires? You can go to any place without waiting for anyone, you can eat your food whichever way you want, you can sleep for all you care and wake up with nobody to think of but yourself. No need of compromises, time constraints and debates. Savor it.

Dare Yourself. Traveling with only a backpack for yourself can be worthwhile, yes, because it will be only you who will be responsible for yourself, and your decisions. You need to trust your own choices, based on your instincts and belief. This will test you and who you are, and your limits.

Soul searching. This is the most treasured moments that you should cherish. Time spent alone is also time to do some soul searching. There would be times that you will be lonely, but you can fill that hollow space by just communing with yourself, the nature, and perhaps the Creator. This is the time that you can assess and reassess yourself, your priorities and what-have-you in your life. Have a deeper insight of other people, your friends, your job and your family.

Go home with a renewed spirit, and a transformation of a new perception of the world. Sometimes, you cannot see the value of life when you are in a crowd. You need to experience things alone to be able to appreciate yourself and the people around you.

I’ve always been a home buddy since I start working at home and it is like home-my kids’ schools-home on weekdays and home-church-home on Sundays.  My youngest son is a first-time school boy and then once I had a chance to go out with him for a school trip.  It seems that I am more excited than him that I prepared our things for the early leave the next day.

The places we visited for the school trip seemed nothing new to me, but it was his first time so I let him enjoy the places and took pictures.  The last place that we visited was something very new to me.  I saw the place and sign before when I was working in Cubao and was still living in Quezon City.  The tour guide asked everyone to prepare our camera phones or cameras and he said that it is a huge place with different paintings on the walls, ceilings, and even floors.  Everyone was so excited to wear our pair of foot covers at the door of Art In Island.  It is an interactive 3D art museum located in Brgy. Socorro, Cubao, Quezon City.

The first part of the paintings was the common optical illusions and at first, I can’t take pictures because we were so amazed of the wall paintings.  When we get inside the place more, there were different themes and really huge paintings that change the atmosphere of the place.  Since it was a mother and son event for the two of us, I took more of the picture of the place with my very handsome good boy.  Well, I can say that there were just a couple of people who volunteered to take a photo of us both like the huge message in the bottle.  We sat in the middle of the two walls and that is the middle of the painting of a huge bottle that was floating in the ocean with beautiful scenery of the sunset as a background.

There were some parts that it seems like you were in a jungle, Egypt, Milan, Snowy Mountain and a lot more.  There were also parts in front of the painting that has a sign of camera; it means that is the good spot to take a picture.  When we were on our way home, I was so surprised that I took more than 50 pictures in that place and I uploaded more than 180 pictures from the places that we visited that day.  It was fun and we’re planning to visit it again with some friends or family members.

Imagine waking up one morning and suddenly boredom begins to strike in.  But instead of giving in to that boredom, I was thankful God has given me another day to live and thought of engaging in an unexpected road trip!  Finally, I had the guts to get that much needed break from the daily household chores, some unfinished projects, and being a mom and wife.

I dropped by my sister’s house and invited her to come with me to places I wanted to go, but honestly don’t know where to go.  That was where the fun began.  So off we went to Banate, a town in the northern part of Iloilo Province in the Philippines where we can just sit, relax and enjoy the sea view.  This place has an eco-park, where small eateries are located with their specialty called “buko halo,” a mixture of various fruits, shaved ice, milk, and sugar inside a young coconut.  This municipality is also known for their fresh crabs and shrimps; truly a paradise for visitors.  We then proceeded to Estancia and Carles, considered the last municipalities of the province, which are also famous in fresh fishes and sea shells, and other exotic seafoods delightfully new in our eyes.  After some picture takings for remembrance and memoirs, we proceeded to Roxas City, another province in Capiz.

By this time the sun is beginning to set, and we need to slowly return to Iloilo.  We took another route in Capiz province and passed by several towns and municipalities, occasionally stopping to take pictures and taste some of their delicacies.  Near ending the trip, we finally stopped to buy crabs and some interesting sea shells to cap the adventure.

Truly, the Philippines is a country with sights to behold with several hidden places and virgin beaches waiting to be explored.  I had a very good time and enjoyed my rewards in this road trip.  My sister enjoyed the trip as well and we are both looking forward to the next escapade.  Soon, we will explore the southern part of Panay, where hills and zigzag roads are quite challenging.  We arrived safely, satisfied and renewed.

I've been in Qatar for only three days and I'm thinking what makes me decide to live in Qatar for work. I remember a few months back waiting long time to get my job application get approved. During those times, I kept on asking myself if I really want to live in Qatar for the next three or more years.

Now that I'm here, there are considerably good reasons why living in Qatar attracts me.  Well undoubtedly the pay for expat workers here is better that their respective country.  Another of course with the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2022, there is very impressive development in Qatar.

Qatar somehow is very peaceful.  The environment is a bit relaxed.  The neighbourhood is really quite.  You will only get to see people going to mosques during prayer times.  The traffic is very moderate to heavy on peak hours.  There is only a few build up on some major intersections.  Because the infrastructure is relatively new, roads are easy to navigate.  It seems that fun and too much leisure is not a priority here, but it seems people are contented.  Shopping malls are not that jammed pack.  There are some small shopping malls here actually.  I've seen one, and there is a cinema.  Alcohol is not prohibited, but you need to get a license.  I'm thinking getting one.  I've heard to some of my friends who have been here for a couple of years telling me they are definitely staying here as long as they could.  The weather by the way is likeable, although it's a bit early to tell because winter is just approaching.  

I can't wait to explore more the city of Doha.  It seems that you can tour the whole city in just few hours in a not so busy day.  I see that there are major constructions undergoing to build the metro rail as well.  There is a public bus that seems efficient.  Well, I must say these are only an observation of someone who is relatively new here living in Qatar.

I think I will continuously enjoy living and working here in Qatar.  I particularly like the culture that is relaxed as compared to other Arab countries I've been to like Saudi Arabia.

All schools from elementary to college prepare for this event every year. Top of my list when visiting Palawan, the Philippines is to experience the world-renowned Puerto Princesa Underground River. I do not know what to expect, although I am hearing good news that it is worthy to do the tour. Various online reviews are telling it is a must-see place when in Palawan.

So, in May 2015, It was the time when I decided to visit Palawan.  I made a separate hotel booking in Sabang, Puerto Princesa primarily for convenience in visiting the Puerto Princesa Underground River. I also wanted to experience seeing the other beach side of Palawan called the Sabang beach. I was only basing this assumption that there are somehow more places to visit in Sabang Beach when I checked the Sabang in Google Maps.

I made the correct decision that I spent a night in Sabang. The travel from Puerto Princesa City Airport to Sabang is very tiring. The road has so much curves and slopes and at times some slight steep turns; maybe because of the mountainous terrain. It took us 3 hours to reach the hotel. Good thing, the hotel staff in Amos Digue Pension House was helpful in getting us a private van because we missed the last trip of the Lexus Shuttle Service (5 pm usually from the airport). The flight was delayed more than 1 hour and 45 minutes from Manila as expected from Cebu Pacific.

Reaching the hotel Amos Digue Pension House in Sabang, Puerto Princesa City, my daughter and I were tired. We immediately slept after a quick hot instant noodles for dinner. Good thing, there were still sari-sari stores open. I gave to the hotel staff the payment for the permit going to the Puerto Princesa Underground River as suggested because he will arrange that early morning.

Fitness First Platinum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia had previously started over the past week last September 2013 its regular sessions of Aqua Zumba. Expatriates and locals alike enjoys the routine as seen in this video. I took the liberty of taking a video although hesitant as taking photos and videos in public places in Saudi Arabia is somehow controlled. The Riyadh National Zoo

It is one of the largest zoos in Saudi Arabia. The national zoo houses 1400 animals of 40 different species, involving Elephants, Kangaroos, Monkeys, Seals and many other animals. The zoo is covered with 55 acres of land. The zoo is open for 6 days a week and it offers a great enjoyment for kids.

The National Museum of Riyadh

Located in the King Abdul Aziz, Historical Center, The Riyadh National Museum is a double-storey building that houses a wide array of artifacts of both the past and present, including manuscripts and display boards. The museum is known for its great exhibitions all around the world.

I would like to travel as often as I could.  I learn to appreciate traveling when I worked abroad in Saudi Arabia in 2007 to 2014.  It was the time when I had the chance to experience other culture as well.  I also like to collect some travel souvenirs.   Hopefully, I would be able to retain all of these memories traveling.

For a start, I like to visit various tourist attractions in my country, the Philippines mostly the beach.  Then, if I have enough savings, I will try to go to different cities in Southeast Asia where at least there are no visa requirements.  Aside from that, I want to see Tokyo, Seoul, and other major cities in Asia.  I will then proceed my plan traveling to Europe and America, thereafter.

With all these plans I have in mind, I would like to do my traveling with my daughter.  I would like her to experience traveling at a very young age.  She is 14 years old now.  I already brought her to Boracay, Singapore, and Puerto Princesa.  This is my promise to her on a yearly basis to celebrate her birthday by traveling.

I start to enjoy traveling when I saw Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.  I was amazed seeing various Muslim architecture like the mosques that you can find every district or community.  I often took pictures of them using any camera I had.  Jeddah is an old city.  There is a district called Al Balad where you can see old historic houses.  It is interesting to see different landscapes like the red sand dunes in the desert.  There is also a place called “The Edge of the World” which is a few kilometers away from the capital city, Riyadh.  It is a place where you can see rock formations where it seems the pace was submerged or part of an ocean long time before.  Seeing these cities makes me eager to travel more, and this time, I want to do these all with my daughter.

I do not know how to describe the feeling of planning my travels.  All I know is the excitement of traveling that brings to me from the time of doing the airline and hotel booking, making the tour itinerary, and getting to various places/cities the first time.  I enjoy a lot seeing tourists spots and places where I only see them before on TV and on Internet.

At this time, I am planning to bring my daughter to Bali in Indonesia on her next birthday.  I will also try to include touring Bohol because my daughter specifically likes seeing white sand beaches.
